Meat & Seafood Export FAQs

Common questions about exporting meat and seafood to China.

What is CIFER registration?
CIFER is China’s online system for registering overseas food manufacturers. Meat and seafood facilities must register before they can export to China.
Which countries can export meat to China?
Only countries with a bilateral market access agreement with China can export meat. The US, UK, Canada and Australia all have access for certain species, with changing restrictions – we verify the current status for you.
How long does meat product registration take?
CIFER registration typically takes 3-8 months. Country-specific market access protocols between your government and China may also apply.
What labeling is required for imported meat?
Imported meat needs Chinese labels with all mandatory elements under GB 7718, plus product-specific details such as origin, slaughter date and facility code.
Do seafood and fish need the same registration as meat?
Yes, seafood falls under CIFER registration too. Depending on category (farmed vs. wild-caught), additional traceability and health certificate requirements may apply.
Can we use the same registration for multiple product lines?
One registration covers one facility but can include multiple product lines produced there. We verify which combinations are permitted for your plant.
